09.15– 10.15 Artificial Intelligence: Challenges and Opportunities by Dr. Polding, academic director at IE University, PhD and MSc in Information Systems from The University of Sheffield and a BSc (Hons) in Media Science from Sheffield Hallam University.

New technologies can not only handle repetitive and manual tasks, now they perform sophisticated kinds of knowledge-based tasks, changing the everyday work of executives. Managers can focus more on strategies, innovation, AI helps to identify patterns and trends, predict outcomes and facilitate resource allocation.  

This talk provides a comprehensive exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), from its historical roots to its current state as the most talked about technology in the world. It will explain applications in critical domains like transportation and healthcare, the emergence of generative AI, and its future implications for employment and society. The talk aims to dispel the hype and explain the reality from the perspective of researchers. 

 

Dr. Polding holds a Ph.D. and MSc in Information Systems from The University of Sheffield. Specializing in user experience design and development methodologies for creating online applications and marketing strategies. His research interests focus on big data, natural language processing, and developing quantitative models. Previous research interests include e-commerce, web applications, mobile apps, RFID, and database technologies.

 

Robert is an academic director at IE University and lecturer in software design and development. Previously a lecturer in digital anthropology, database design, information systems modeling, project management, data science, and big data analysis.

Dr. Polding is the academic director of the Batchelor in Data and Business Analytics. He holds a Ph.D. and MSc in Information Systems from The University of Sheffield and specializes in user experience design and development methodologies for creating online applications and online marketing strategies. Companies worked at include British Telecom, Indra, Greenpeace, and as a contractor for the Spanish Army.
