True or False: Fiction and (Dis)information in the Early Modern World and Today

Overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of information, how can we ever be certain of what we know? How do we distinguish between fake and real news? The early modern, a period marked by the birth of globalization, and of new discoveries and inventions which were made viral by a flourishing print culture, offers a compelling point of comparison with our current hyper connected society

Harvard University, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Romance Languages and Literatures

I work on cultural and literary production in early modern Spain, as well as cultural and literary exchanges between Spain, Italy, and the broader Hispanic world. I’m interested in visual and material culture, the picaresque and its translations, the construction of individual, group (rogues, gypsies, and literary genres), and national identity.
